Building Fire In Noida's Sector 66 Leaves Two Dead, Investigation Underway Into Cause

Two killed in Noida building fire incident today.

Two people were killed after a fire, suspected to have been triggered by an electric vehicle (EV) battery being charged, broke out in a four-storey residential building in Mamura village in Noida's Sector 66 on Wednesday. The blaze prompted a large-scale rescue operation, with authorities evacuating around 50 families from the building and nearby areas to prevent further casualties. According to police, the fire started on the ground floor of the G+4 residential building in Lane 2, where an EV battery was being charged.

Investigators believe an initial spark from the charging battery ignited nearby petrol-powered vehicles parked inside the building, causing the flames to spread rapidly.  Thick smoke soon engulfed the premises, making it difficult for residents to escape and complicating rescue efforts. Emergency services, including fire department personnel and police teams, rushed to the spot after receiving information about the blaze. Firefighters launched an extensive operation to contain the flames and evacuate residents trapped inside the building.

Around 50 families were safely moved out as a precaution while rescue teams searched the smoke-filled structure for anyone who might still be inside. Despite the swift response, two people lost their lives in the incident. Police have not yet disclosed the identities of the victims, and the exact cause of their deaths will be determined after post-mortem examinations. Officials said the fire caused extensive damage to vehicles parked on the ground floor and affected parts of the residential building before it was brought under control.

Preliminary investigations suggest that the charging EV battery may have been the source of the initial spark, although authorities have said the exact cause of the fire will be confirmed only after a detailed forensic examination.  Officials are also assessing whether fire safety norms were followed in the building and if any negligence contributed to the incident. The incident has once again highlighted concerns about fire safety in residential buildings, particularly where electric vehicle batteries are charged in enclosed spaces alongside conventional fuel-powered vehicles.

Experts have repeatedly stressed the importance of using certified charging equipment, ensuring proper ventilation and adhering to safety guidelines to minimise the risk of battery-related fires. Police and fire department officials are continuing their investigation into the incident. They are expected to examine the building's electrical systems, charging equipment and other possible factors that may have contributed to the blaze. Authorities have urged residents to follow recommended fire safety practices and immediately report any electrical hazards to help prevent similar accidents in the future.
