BSF, Police Foil Major Drone-Based Heroin Smuggling Bid Along India-Pakistan Border

Security forces seize 5.3 kg heroin worth Rs 25 crore.

Security forces successfully intercepted a major narcotics smuggling operation along the India-Pakistan International Border in the R S Pura sector, recovering over 5.3 kg of heroin valued at more than Rs 25 crore in the international market. The contraband, dropped by a Pakistani drone, was seized during a joint search operation by the Border Security Force (BSF) and police near Border Outpost Jatinder. The operation was initiated at approximately 6 a.m. following intelligence reports of a drone incursion into Indian territory.

Acting on precise intelligence, BSF personnel conducted a thorough search near village Bidipur, where they recovered two yellow-colored packets containing smaller packets of suspected heroin in a farmland area. The BSF spokesperson confirmed that the alert troops effectively foiled another attempt by Pakistan-based smugglers to infiltrate Indian territory with narcotics. A comprehensive search of the surrounding area continues to ensure no additional contraband remains undetected. The police have registered a case under relevant legal provisions, and further investigations are underway to trace the origins and intended recipients of the consignment.

The interception highlights the persistent challenge of cross-border smuggling facilitated by advanced technology such as drones. The use of unmanned aerial vehicles to deliver narcotics across the border has emerged as a significant concern for Indian security forces, prompting heightened vigilance and coordinated efforts between the BSF and local law enforcement agencies. This successful operation underscores the effectiveness of intelligence-driven interventions in curbing illicit activities along the sensitive India-Pakistan border.

The recovery of such a substantial quantity of heroin marks a significant blow to the narcotics smuggling network operating across the border. The estimated international market value of the seized contraband underscores the high stakes involved in these illegal operations. Authorities remain on high alert, with ongoing efforts to strengthen border security measures and prevent future smuggling attempts through aerial or other means.

This incident follows a series of similar interdictions by the BSF, reflecting the agency’s commitment to safeguarding India’s borders from both security threats and illegal trafficking. As investigations proceed, the focus remains on dismantling the broader network responsible for orchestrating such smuggling operations, ensuring the safety and security of the region amidst evolving challenges.
