BRS Demands FIR Against Telangana CM Revanth Reddy Over “Hate-Inducing” Speech Targeting KCR
Bharat Rashtra Samithi accuses CM of inflammatory remarks calling to “bury” the party.
In a sharp escalation of political tensions in Telangana, the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) has formally approached the Director General of Police (DGP), demanding criminal proceedings against Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy. The complaint, submitted by a BRS delegation on Monday, labels Reddy’s January 18 public speech in Khammam as “highly inflammatory, hate-inducing, and violence-inciting” against former CM K. Chandrashekar Rao (KCR) and the BRS party.
According to the complaint, Revanth Reddy urged supporters to “bury” the BRS by digging “100-metre pits” and to “demolish” its presence in villages. BRS claims these statements cross the line from political rhetoric into criminal intimidation and promotion of enmity, potentially inciting violence against party leaders, workers, and supporters—especially in rural areas. The party warned that such language from the state’s top executive could embolden unlawful elements and disrupt public order.
The BRS emphasized that the remarks were deliberately aimed at humiliating KCR, described as a “widely respected leader” and the chief architect of Telangana’s statehood. It argued that attacking him in this manner hurts the sentiments of lakhs who participated in the Telangana movement and undermines the state’s democratic fabric. Citing constitutional protections under Articles 14 (equality) and 21 (right to life and dignity), the party asserted that political workers deserve equal legal safeguards irrespective of affiliation.

The complaint referenced key Supreme Court judgments, including Pravasi Bhalai Sangathan vs Union of India and Tehseen Poonawalla vs Union of India, which hold public officials to a higher standard of responsibility in speech to prevent hate and violence. BRS demanded:
• Immediate registration of an FIR against Revanth Reddy
• Preservation of all video, audio, and social media evidence of the speech
• Strict monitoring to prevent attacks on BRS cadres
• State-wide protection for party leaders and workers
The party cautioned that failing to act would set a dangerous precedent, threatening constitutional values, rule of law, and democratic accountability in Telangana. This development comes amid ongoing bitter rivalry between the ruling Congress and opposition BRS following the 2023 assembly elections, where Congress ended BRS’s decade-long rule.
