Deadly explosion in dust chamber leaves six dead, five critically injured in industrial accident.
A devastating explosion at Real Ispat and Power Ltd, a sponge iron and steel plant in Bakulahi village, Bhatapara rural area of Balodabazar-Bhatapara district, Chhattisgarh, claimed the lives of six workers on January 22, 2026. The blast occurred in the Dust Settling Chamber (DSC) of the unit, causing hot dust to rain down on workers below and inflicting severe burn injuries. All six fatalities happened on the spot, according to preliminary reports from district authorities.
Five other workers sustained serious burns in the incident and were immediately rushed to the Chhattisgarh Institute of Medical Sciences (CIMS) in Bilaspur for advanced treatment. District Collector Deepak Soni confirmed the details and stated that police, along with senior administrative officials, reached the site swiftly to coordinate rescue and relief efforts. Senior officials are overseeing the situation on the ground.
State Health Minister Shyam Bihari Jaiswal expressed profound sorrow over the loss of lives and has directed the collector to ensure the best possible medical care for the injured. He also ordered a thorough investigation into the cause of the blast and strict action against anyone found responsible for negligence or safety lapses. The minister conveyed condolences to the bereaved families and assured full state government support during this tragic period.

Industrial accidents in steel and sponge iron plants remain a concern in Chhattisgarh, often linked to high-temperature processes and dust-handling systems.
