Bihar Students Hospitalised After Gas Pipeline Rupture In Muzaffarpur

Students hospitalised after gas pipeline rupture in Muzaffarpur.

Several students of Rohua High School in Bihar's Muzaffarpur district were hospitalised after a gas pipeline ruptured near the school during drainage construction work, causing gas leakage in the surrounding area. At least seven students reportedly fainted after being exposed to the leaked gas, with all affected students receiving medical treatment. Doctors said the condition of the students was stable.

The incident occurred on Muzaffarpur-Pusa Road near Rahua village in Musahari block, where a drainage project was being carried out by the Bihar Urban Infrastructure Development Corporation (BUDCO). During excavation work using a JCB machine, the pipeline was reportedly damaged, leading to a sudden gas leak accompanied by a loud noise that triggered panic among local residents.

Following the pipeline rupture, gas spread through the nearby area and reached Rohua High School, located around 100 metres from the leakage site. Classes were underway when the incident occurred, and several students were exposed to the gas. Seven girl students reportedly lost consciousness and were immediately taken to the Musahari Primary Health Centre for medical attention.

Doctors at the health centre provided emergency treatment to the affected students. Two students showed improvement and continued receiving care at the facility, while five others were referred to Sri Krishna Singh Medical College for further treatment. Ambulances were arranged to shift the students, while anxious parents gathered at the health centre to check on their condition.

Police teams, technical experts, and officials from Indian Oil reached the site to control the leakage and prevent further complications. Authorities worked to stop the gas flow and secure the area following the incident. No major damage to property was reported, but the exposure caused distress among students and residents in the vicinity.

Local residents alleged that negligence during excavation work led to the pipeline damage. A resident, Neeraj Kumar Mishra, claimed that workers failed to take adequate precautions while digging near the pipeline route. Officials have not yet announced details of any investigation or action against those responsible, while the affected students continue to recover under medical supervision.
