Bihar Rolls Out Smart Classes And Free JEE-NEET Coaching In Govt Schools
Bihar expands digital education and exam preparation support.
The Bihar government has launched a Smart Class initiative in 150 government schools across Patna as part of an effort to modernise education and expand access to digital learning facilities. Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary inaugurated the programme at Government Girls' Higher Secondary School in Shastri Nagar, describing it as a major step towards improving the quality of education in government institutions and enhancing students’ learning experiences.
The state government said the initiative aims to provide students with technology-based learning facilities similar to those available in many private schools. During the launch event, Chief Minister Choudhary visited a smart classroom, interacted with students, and attended a live digital science lesson on the structure and functions of a cell. He also asked questions to students to understand their grasp of the topic and highlighted the importance of using technology to support classroom education.
Under the Smart Class programme, students from Classes 9 to 12 will receive access to interactive online classes, expert-led lectures, digital study materials, e-notes, recorded video lessons, and regular mock tests. Officials said the programme is designed to strengthen conceptual understanding, improve exam preparation, and make learning more engaging through the use of audio-visual tools, animations, and multimedia content.

The government said recorded lessons will allow students to revise topics according to their convenience and learn at their own pace. By integrating digital resources into classrooms, the initiative is expected to help teachers explain difficult concepts more effectively while giving students additional learning support beyond traditional teaching methods.
Along with the Smart Class programme, Chief Minister Choudhary announced free coaching facilities for engineering and medical entrance examinations. The state government will provide free JEE and NEET coaching to academically talented students from economically weaker backgrounds in 10 model schools in Patna, aiming to reduce the financial barriers faced by students seeking competitive exam preparation.
Officials said the coaching programme is part of the government’s broader plan to promote educational equality and ensure that deserving students have access to quality preparation opportunities. The Smart Class initiative and free JEE-NEET coaching scheme together represent Bihar’s efforts to strengthen public education through technology, improve academic outcomes, and create more opportunities for students across the state.
