Bihar CM Unveils Rs 100 Fee for Competitive Exam Prelims, Mains Free
Bihar slashes exam fees for youth
In a significant move to support Bihar’s youth, Chief Minister Nitish Kumar announced on Friday, August 15, 2025, that candidates appearing for preliminary tests of all competitive examinations for state government jobs will pay a uniform fee of just Rs 100. In a groundbreaking step, those who qualify for the mains examinations will be exempt from any fees. The decision, shared by Kumar via a post on X in Hindi, comes as a relief for lakhs of aspirants preparing for government jobs, with assembly elections looming in the coming months.
Kumar emphasized that the initiative aims to ease the financial burden on young job seekers. “We have decided to standardize the preliminary test fee at Rs 100 across all competitive exams conducted by state commissions. Additionally, candidates clearing the prelims will not have to pay any fee for the mains,” he stated. This policy applies to exams conducted by bodies such as the Bihar Public Service Commission, Bihar Staff Selection Commission, Bihar Technical Service Commission, Bihar Police Subordinate Service Commission, and the Central Constable Selection Board.
The Chief Minister highlighted his government’s long-standing commitment to youth employment. “Since the beginning, providing government jobs to Bihar’s youth has been our priority. This decision is another step toward securing their future,” Kumar said. The move is expected to benefit thousands of candidates, particularly those from economically disadvantaged backgrounds, by making the examination process more accessible. As Bihar prepares for its electoral cycle, this youth-centric policy could resonate widely among job aspirants across the state.
