Bhopal Police Probe Gaming Addiction After 14-Year-Old Boy's Suicide
14-year-old Ansh Sahu found hanging in Bhopal home; family blames excessive online gaming addiction, with police investigating task pressure and in-app spending.
A 14-year-old boy died by suicide in Bhopal, with police suspecting that an intense obsession with a mobile game may have contributed to the tragic incident. The incident has once again brought attention to concerns around excessive screen time, online gaming addiction, and adolescent mental health.
According to preliminary information from the police, the boy was found dead at his residence under circumstances indicating suicide. Family members reportedly alerted authorities after discovering him unresponsive. He was rushed to a nearby hospital, where doctors declared him dead on arrival.
Investigators said the teenager had been spending long hours playing a mobile game and had become increasingly withdrawn in recent weeks. While no suicide note has been recovered so far, police are examining the boy’s mobile phone and digital activity to understand whether online gaming played a direct or indirect role in influencing his mental state.

Family members told officials that they had expressed concern over his excessive gaming habits and declining interest in studies and social interaction. Police sources said there were no immediate signs of external pressure or foul play, and the case is being treated as a suicide pending further investigation.
Mental health experts caution against drawing premature conclusions but note that compulsive gaming can exacerbate stress, anxiety, and isolation among vulnerable adolescents. They stress the importance of parental supervision, open communication, and early intervention when behavioural changes are noticed in children.
The incident has renewed calls for greater awareness about youth mental health and responsible digital consumption. Police said counselling support has been offered to the family, and further findings will emerge after a detailed forensic and cyber examination is completed.
