Bengal Governor Commends Suvendu Adhikari Government On Infiltration Control Efforts

Governor praises government efforts to prevent infiltration in Bengal.

The budget session of the West Bengal Legislative Assembly commenced on Thursday with Governor R. N. Ravi delivering an address that highlighted the state government’s priorities on border security, anti-corruption measures, and infrastructure development. The speech marked the opening of the financial proceedings for the new legislative cycle and set the tone for upcoming policy discussions.

In his address, the Governor praised the state government led by Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari for taking stronger steps to curb infiltration and improve border management. He stated that illegal immigration had been a concern in certain border-adjacent regions and noted that measures were being undertaken to address the issue, including renewed efforts to strengthen border fencing and enhance surveillance systems.

The Governor further remarked that the administration had intensified action against corruption and extortion networks that had allegedly persisted in earlier years. He credited the current police and administrative machinery for adopting a more stringent approach in dealing with such activities, framing it as part of a broader push to improve law and order in the state.

Addressing infrastructure development, R. N. Ravi also referred to delays in key projects in previous years, particularly the expansion of the Kolkata Metro Railway. He said that work on these long-pending projects had now resumed under the present administration, signaling renewed focus on urban connectivity and transport modernization.

The budget session is scheduled to continue until June 25, with Finance Minister Swapan Dasgupta set to present the full state budget for the financial year 2026–27 on June 22. Earlier in February, an interim budget was presented due to the election cycle, and the full budget could not be introduced at that time because of electoral procedures.

The Governor concluded by noting that the state’s fiscal roadmap would focus on improving revenue generation while maintaining administrative efficiency. The upcoming budget is expected to outline key economic priorities, including development spending, infrastructure expansion, and governance reforms as the new government advances its policy agenda.
