Banks Closed for Four Days from Jan 23 to 26 Across States

Indian banks are set for an extended closure period from January 23 to January 26, 2026, due to a combination of regional, monthly, weekly, and national holidays. Customers planning in-branch transactions such as cash deposits, cheque clearances, or demand drafts should complete them in advance, as physical branches will remain shut during this stretch in various parts of the country.

On January 23 (Friday), banks will be closed in Tripura, Odisha, and West Bengal to observe regional holidays: Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose’s birth anniversary in West Bengal, Saraswati Puja (Basant Panchami/Shri Panchami) in multiple states, and Veer Surendra Sai Jayanti in Odisha. Other states will operate normally on this day.

January 24 (Saturday) is the fourth Saturday of the month, when RBI guidelines mandate closure of bank branches nationwide (second and fourth Saturdays are non-working days for banks). January 25 (Sunday) is a weekly holiday across the country, with no banking operations at branches.January 26 (Monday) marks Republic Day, a national holiday, leading to complete closure of all bank branches throughout India.

While physical branches will be unavailable, digital channels remain fully functional. Customers can use net banking, mobile banking apps, UPI, internet banking portals, and ATMs for transfers, bill payments, balance checks, and other routine services without interruption.

This sequence creates a convenient long weekend for many, but it underscores the importance of planning ahead for any branch-dependent banking needs. The holiday list aligns with RBI’s calendar of notified holidays, which varies by state for regional observances while national holidays apply uniformly.
