Arunachal Villages Near LAC Organise Tiranga Yatra To Mark Independence Day

Patriotism took centre stage in Arunachal Pradesh's remote border villages as residents, security personnel and local officials joined a Tiranga Yatra ahead of Independence Day. The event was held in the Chuna and Mago sectors of Tawang district at an altitude of around 13,000 feet. It was organised under the Vibrant Villages Programme as part of the nationwide Har Ghar Tiranga campaign and to commemorate 150 years of Vande Mataram.

The programme was organised by the Jang Sub-Divisional Administration in collaboration with BJP Mandal 3-Mukto, the Indian Army, the Indo-Tibetan Border Police and residents of Mago and Chuna villages. Zilla Parishad Chairperson Leki Gombu flagged off the yatra in the presence of ZPM Mogto Pema Tsering, Additional Deputy Commissioner of Jang Hakraso Kri, Assistant Commissioner of Thingbu Thutan Wangchu, senior Army and ITBP officers, panchayat representatives and other government officials.

The highlight of the event was a 300-metre-long national flag carried from Chuna to Mago village. Villagers and security personnel walked together across the rugged Himalayan terrain, creating a prominent display of national unity. The procession brought residents of the strategically important border settlements together with the forces stationed in the region.

For people living in Chuna and Mago, the event carried significance beyond the Independence Day celebrations. The villages are located close to the Line of Actual Control and residents maintain regular interaction with Army and ITBP personnel. The participation of local communities alongside security forces reflected the close relationship that has developed between frontier residents and those responsible for maintaining security in the region.

The yatra also formed part of wider efforts under the Vibrant Villages Programme, which focuses on strengthening infrastructure and community life in remote border settlements. Events such as the Tiranga Yatra provide an opportunity for residents in these areas to participate in national celebrations while highlighting the importance of communities living in India's frontier regions.

With the Tricolour carried through the high-altitude landscape against the backdrop of the Himalayas, the Chuna-Mago procession became a prominent Independence Day event in Tawang district. The participation of villagers, security personnel, local representatives and officials brought together different sections of the community under the national flag and highlighted the sense of national identity among people living along the frontier.
