Arrest Warrant Issued Against MP Congress Chief Jitu Patwari In Bhind Case
Court action intensifies in 2024 Bhind case.
A special MP-MLA court in Gwalior has issued an arrest warrant against Madhya Pradesh Congress president Jitu Patwari in connection with a 2024 case registered in Bhind during the Lok Sabha election campaign. The warrant was issued after Patwari allegedly failed to appear before the court despite the filing of a chargesheet, earlier summons, and a bailable warrant. The court has now directed the Bhind police to ensure his presence before the court, with the next hearing scheduled for July 27.
The case stems from an FIR registered at Umri police station on April 27, 2024, following a complaint by Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) office-bearer Ashok Gupta. The complaint was filed after Patwari allegedly made remarks accusing BSP Lok Sabha candidate Devashish Jarariya of financial irregularities and of colluding with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) during the election campaign. Based on the complaint, police initiated legal proceedings, and the matter has since been pending before the special MP-MLA court.
While issuing the arrest warrant, the court expressed dissatisfaction over the Bhind police's inability to execute previous orders and trace Patwari. Observing that the Congress leader is a well-known public figure who frequently appears in the media, the court questioned the police's claim that he could not be located. It directed the Bhind Superintendent of Police to constitute a special team to execute the warrant and produce Patwari before the court. The court also warned that officials could face action if the warrant is not implemented this time.

The legal development comes amid intensified political activity in Madhya Pradesh, with Patwari continuing to target the BJP-led state government on several issues. On Tuesday, he reiterated allegations against Chief Minister Mohan Yadav, accusing him of being linked to large-scale land grabbing in Ujjain. Patwari claimed that the administrative machinery was shielding the Chief Minister and announced that the Congress would launch a statewide public movement to expose those allegedly involved.
The arrest warrant is the latest legal challenge facing the state Congress chief as political tensions continue to rise in Madhya Pradesh. While the court proceedings relate specifically to statements made during the 2024 Lok Sabha election campaign, Patwari has remained vocal in his criticism of the BJP government on governance and corruption issues. The case is expected to come up again on July 27, when the court will review the execution of the warrant and the progress made by the investigating authorities.
