Army Chief Says Pakistan Must Stop Operations Against India or Face Response

Army Chief warns Pakistan over continued operations against India.

Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi has issued a sharp warning to Pakistan, stating that if it continues to harbour terrorists and conduct operations against India, it will have to decide whether it wants to remain “part of geography or history.” His remarks were made during an interactive session at the Manekshaw Centre in Delhi.

The Army Chief was responding to a question on how the Indian Army would react if circumstances similar to last year’s Operation Sindoor were to arise again. Speaking at the ‘Uniform Unveiled’ event under the ‘Sena Samwad’ series, General Dwivedi reiterated India’s firm stance against cross-border terrorism and underscored the military’s readiness to respond decisively to any future provocations.

“If you have heard me earlier, what I have said… that Pakistan, if it continues to harbour terrorists and operate against India, then they have to decide whether they want to be part of geography or history or not,” he said, delivering a blunt message that reflected India’s continued security concerns regarding terrorism emanating from across the border.

His comments come shortly after the country and the Indian armed forces marked the first anniversary of Operation Sindoor, a military response launched on May 7 last year following the Pahalgam terror attack. The operation involved precision strikes targeting multiple terror infrastructure sites in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK), signalling a significant escalation in India’s counter-terror strategy.

Following the initial strikes, Pakistan reportedly launched retaliatory offensives, leading to a series of counter-operations by Indian forces under the same mission framework. The military engagement between the two nuclear-armed neighbours continued for nearly 88 hours before both sides reached an understanding on the evening of May 10, bringing a halt to hostilities.General Dwivedi’s remarks are being seen as a reaffirmation of India’s security doctrine, which maintains a strong posture against cross-border terrorism while signalling preparedness for swift retaliation in the event of any future escalation.
