APSDMA Issues Rain and Thunderstorm Alert Amid Severe Heatwave
APSDMA warns of rain, thunderstorms, and ongoing heatwave conditions.
The Andhra Pradesh State Disaster Management Authority (APSDMA) has issued a two-day weather advisory as changing climatic conditions are expected across parts of the state. The alert comes amid ongoing heatwave conditions, with authorities warning residents to exercise caution during thunderstorms and lightning activity.
APSDMA Managing Director Prakhar Jain said a surface-level cyclonic circulation over Rayalaseema and adjoining areas is likely to trigger light to moderate rainfall accompanied by isolated thunderstorms in parts of Rayalaseema districts on Monday and Tuesday. The system may also cause a slight dip in daytime temperatures, offering temporary relief from the prevailing heat.
Officials advised the public to avoid taking shelter under trees or remaining in open fields during thunderstorms due to the risk of lightning. “Unstable weather conditions require vigilance,” authorities added, emphasizing safety precautions during rainfall and storm activity.

Despite the expected rains, heatwave conditions are forecast to persist in several districts of Andhra Pradesh. On Monday, the government issued heatwave alerts for mandals in Vizianagaram, Parvathipuram-Manyam, and Alluri Sitharama Raju (ASR) districts, including Badangi, Merakamudidam, Therlam, Vangara, Balijipeta, Garugubilli, Seethanagaram, Chintoor, and Kunavaram.
Officials noted that around 10 mandals are likely to experience severe heat on Monday, with the number expected to rise to 12 on Tuesday. The extreme heat has already been recorded across the state, with 78 locations reporting temperatures above 40°C on Sunday. Gudur in Nellore district recorded the highest at 42.4°C, followed by Nandanamarella in Prakasam district at 42.3°C.
Several other districts, including Kadapa, Tirupati, Chittoor, and Srikakulam, also recorded temperatures exceeding 40°C, highlighting the intensity of the ongoing summer heatwave. Authorities urged residents to stay hydrated, limit outdoor activities during peak heat hours, and remain alert to weather warnings over the next two days.
