Another Top Exit at Akasa Air: Co-Founder Praveen Iyer Steps Down After Five-Year Journey
Akasa Air Co-founder and Chief Commercial Officer Praveen Iyer resigns after five years with the airline.
Akasa Air’s Co-founder and Chief Commercial Officer, Praveen Iyer, has resigned from his position, marking a significant leadership change at the fast-growing airline. The development comes just four months after another co-founder, Neelu Khatri, stepped down, making Iyer the second high-profile exit at the airline in recent months.
In an official statement issued on Wednesday, Akasa Air said that after a “remarkable five-year journey,” Iyer has decided to move on to begin the next chapter of his professional and personal life. The airline acknowledged his contributions during its formative years and credited him with playing a key role in shaping its commercial strategy.
To ensure continuity, Iyer will work closely with the leadership team during a structured transition period that will extend until April 30, 2026. As Chief Commercial Officer and a member of the Executive Committee, he has been instrumental in network planning, revenue management, and building the airline’s brand presence since its inception.

Akasa Air commenced operations on August 7, 2022, and has rapidly expanded its footprint in India’s competitive aviation market. With a current fleet of 33 Boeing 737 MAX aircraft, the airline has positioned itself as a low-cost carrier focused on efficiency, customer experience, and disciplined growth.
Following Iyer’s departure, Akasa Air now has four co-founders — Aditya Ghosh, Anand Srinivasan, Belson Coutinho, and Bhavin Joshi — while Vinay Dube continues to lead the airline as Founder and Chief Executive Officer. The leadership reshuffle comes at a crucial phase as the airline continues to scale operations and strengthen its market presence.
