Andhra Pradesh's 108 Service Responded to 7.78 Lakh Emergency Calls in One Year

Andhra Pradesh modernized its 108 ambulance network, handling over 7.78 lakh emergencies annually.

The Andhra Pradesh government has undertaken a major modernization of its 108 ambulance emergency response network, transforming the service into a faster and more technologically advanced healthcare lifeline for millions of residents. According to an official statement, the upgraded system is designed around the principle that timely medical intervention can significantly improve survival rates, particularly during critical emergencies that occur within the "Golden Hour."

The revamp has been carried out in partnership with Bhavya Health Care and includes the integration of advanced GPS tracking systems, real-time traffic navigation, and digitized patient records. These enhancements are intended to improve response times and ensure that emergency medical teams can reach patients quickly and coordinate care more effectively with hospitals. Officials said the upgraded framework aligns with international trauma care standards.

Data released by the government showed that the emergency network responded to 778,799 calls between June 2025 and May 2026. During this period, ambulance teams provided immediate medical assistance to 113,764 road accident victims and facilitated the safe transportation of 105,786 pregnant women to healthcare facilities. Authorities said these services have played an important role in strengthening access to healthcare across both urban and rural areas of the state.

The operational workload was divided between Inter-Facility Transfers (IFT) and direct emergency responses. Under the IFT category, 253,022 patients were transferred from primary healthcare centers to higher-level medical institutions for specialized treatment. Meanwhile, 525,777 non-IFT emergencies involved rapid dispatches to accident sites, homes, farms, and other locations where immediate medical intervention was required before transportation to hospitals.

The emergency service also handled a wide range of critical medical conditions during the year. Besides accident and maternity-related cases, teams responded to 97,118 respiratory emergencies, 45,951 cardiac incidents, 40,553 cases involving unconscious patients, and thousands of cases related to poisoning, seizures, strokes, injuries, abdominal pain, and newborn emergencies. Officials highlighted that prompt intervention in such situations often determines patient outcomes and survival chances.

To improve treatment during transit, ambulances have been equipped with advanced life-support systems, automated external defibrillators, and enhanced communication technology that allows emergency medical technicians to transmit patient data directly to hospital emergency departments. The government said the combination of modern equipment, trained personnel, and technology-driven operations has strengthened Andhra Pradesh's emergency healthcare infrastructure and improved its ability to respond to life-threatening situations across the state.
