Andhra Pradesh Salutes Heroes: Property Tax Exemption for All Defence Personnel in Villages

Andhra Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan has unveiled a landmark policy granting property tax exemptions for homes owned by Indian Defence personnel within gram panchayat limits, a move hailed as a tribute to the nation’s protectors.

Announced on X on May 11, 2025, the exemption expands beyond its previous scope—limited to retired soldiers or those stationed at borders—to now include all active personnel of the Army, Navy, Air Force, CRPF, and paramilitary forces, regardless of their deployment location across India.

“This decision honours the unwavering courage of our defence forces, whose priceless service safeguards our nation,” Kalyan stated.

Eligible properties include those where personnel, their spouses, or joint owners reside. The policy, prompted by the Director of Sainik Welfare’s recommendation, underscores Andhra Pradesh’s gratitude toward its uniformed heroes.

The initiative follows recent tensions, including the India-Pakistan standoff that temporarily closed 32 airports, highlighting the critical role of defence forces. This exemption, effective immediately, ensures tangible support for personnel like Agniveer Murali Naik, who sacrificed his life in Operation Sindoor.
