Andhra CM Accuses YSRCP of Disrupting Revenue System; Vows Protection for Farmers' Land

N. Chandrababu Naidu accuses previous regime of land record tampering, announces reforms and new pattadar passbooks.

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu on Monday said the ruling coalition government is working to correct what he described as “mistakes” made by the previous administration, particularly in land administration and revenue management. Addressing a public meeting after distributing pattadar passbooks to farmers in Kotha Buruju village of Nandyal district, Naidu accused the earlier government of disrupting the state’s revenue system.

Naidu alleged that leaders of the previous government, led by the YSR Congress Party, attempted to take control of land belonging to farmers and the poor through the Land Titling Act. He also claimed that around 1.95 crore acres were placed under the prohibited list through Section 22A of the Registration Act for political vendettas and illegal land seizures. “We abolished the Land Titling Act as soon as we came to power and are now correcting the mistakes in land records,” the Chief Minister said.

The Chief Minister further criticized the earlier administration for placing political photographs on pattadar passbooks and even on survey stones, alleging that nearly ₹750 crore was spent on the exercise. He said the current government had taken nearly 20 months to rectify issues created by these measures and has now started conducting land surveys in the presence of farmers before issuing updated land documents.

Naidu said the new pattadar passbooks introduced by the coalition government incorporate modern technology to prevent tampering with records. According to him, the documents feature QR codes and blockchain-based tracking to ensure transparency and accountability. “If anyone alters the records, it will be immediately known. Even errors by officials such as MROs and VROs can be traced,” he said, adding that the new passbooks are being issued without corruption.

The Chief Minister also highlighted broader development plans for the state, including transforming the Rayalaseema region into a horticulture hub with support of ₹30,000 crore from the Centre under the Purvodaya scheme. He reiterated that new economic projects are planned across the state, including a drone city in Kurnool and an aerospace city in Anantapur, aimed at attracting investment and boosting regional growth.

Naidu also renewed criticism of the opposition over allegations related to the Tirupati laddu controversy, claiming attempts were made to damage the reputation of Tirumala Venkateswara Temple and its sacred offerings. He said his government would not tolerate any attempt to defile the temple of Lord Venkateswara, while also assuring citizens that electricity tariffs would not be increased despite alleging that the previous government had raised charges multiple times, placing a financial burden of ₹32,000 crore on the public.
