Amit Shah Says Ahmedabad Should Grow With Bengaluru And Hyderabad In Service Sector
Amit Shah says Ahmedabad should grow alongside Bengaluru and Hyderabad in services sector expansion.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah has said Ahmedabad must emerge as a leading service-sector hub alongside Bengaluru and Hyderabad, underlining the need for Gujarat’s largest city to strengthen its position in India’s rapidly expanding knowledge and technology-driven economy. Shah made the remarks while reviewing development initiatives and infrastructure projects during his visit to Gujarat.
According to reports, Shah stressed that Ahmedabad possesses the economic potential, industrial base, and urban infrastructure required to compete with major metropolitan centres already known for their dominance in information technology, innovation, and professional services. He reportedly highlighted the importance of creating employment opportunities for young professionals while improving connectivity, urban planning, and investment ecosystems in the city.
The Union minister’s comments come at a time when several Indian cities are competing to attract investments in technology, finance, startups, and digital services. Bengaluru has long been recognised as India’s technology capital, while Hyderabad has emerged as a major centre for global capability centres, pharmaceutical industries, and information technology firms. Ahmedabad, traditionally known for manufacturing, trade, and cooperative industries, has increasingly sought to diversify into modern service-oriented sectors.

During his meetings in Ahmedabad and Gandhinagar, Shah reviewed a range of civic and developmental projects, including infrastructure expansion, healthcare improvements, environmental initiatives, and urban development programmes. Officials discussed road modernisation, lake restoration, plantation drives, and the progress of municipal projects aimed at supporting long-term urban growth.
Industry observers say Gujarat has been actively positioning Ahmedabad as a destination for technology firms, financial institutions, and startup ventures through initiatives such as GIFT City and expanded industrial corridors. Improved transportation networks, commercial development, and policy support are also expected to play a role in strengthening the city’s competitiveness against established service-sector centres across southern India. Analysts note that sustained investment in skilled talent, digital infrastructure, and urban amenities will be crucial if Ahmedabad is to match the scale and global recognition achieved by Bengaluru and Hyderabad.
Shah’s remarks are likely to reinforce the Gujarat government’s broader push to accelerate urban and economic transformation in the state. With India’s service sector continuing to contribute significantly to national economic growth, policymakers increasingly view emerging metropolitan centres such as Ahmedabad as important drivers of future investment, employment, and innovation.
