Amit Shah Begins Rajasthan-To-Tripura Border Security Assessment Tour

Centre reviews frontier preparedness across sensitive border regions.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah is set to begin an extensive multi-state tour of India’s border regions beginning Monday night, as the Centre intensifies its focus on frontier security and operational preparedness amid evolving national security challenges. The visit will cover strategically significant border areas along both India’s western and eastern frontiers and is aimed at reviewing the country’s security architecture, troop readiness and coordination among agencies responsible for border protection.

According to officials in the Union Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA), the first phase of the tour will begin in Rajasthan, where Shah is scheduled to arrive in Bikaner before travelling to the Border Security Force (BSF) outpost at Sanchu along the India-Pakistan border on May 26. During the visit, the Home Minister is expected to interact directly with BSF personnel deployed in remote and difficult terrain to gain first-hand insight into the operational challenges faced by troops stationed in sensitive frontier regions.

Officials said Shah will assess deployment patterns, surveillance infrastructure and border management systems while reviewing the overall preparedness of forces guarding the international boundary. The visit is also expected to include the inauguration of several welfare initiatives aimed at improving living and working conditions for security personnel serving in harsh border environments. The government has increasingly focused on troop welfare as part of broader efforts to strengthen morale and operational efficiency among frontline forces.

Later in the day, Shah is scheduled to chair a high-level security review meeting in Bikaner involving senior MHA officials, top BSF officers, representatives of the Rajasthan government and police and administrative officials from the state’s border districts. Discussions are expected to centre on improving intelligence-sharing systems, strengthening coordination between central and state agencies and enhancing measures to counter infiltration attempts and cross-border threats.

The Home Minister’s tour will continue in Gujarat on May 29, where he is expected to visit Bhuj and inspect security arrangements along another sensitive section of the India-Pakistan border. Officials said Shah will likely visit the strategically important Harami Nala area in the Rann of Kutch, a region historically viewed as vulnerable because of its marshy terrain and past infiltration attempts. The Gujarat visit is expected to reinforce the Centre’s emphasis on maintaining heightened vigilance in sensitive border sectors.

In the following weeks, Shah is also expected to travel to Tripura and West Bengal to review security arrangements along the India-Bangladesh border. Officials said the northeastern frontier continues to face challenges including illegal crossings, smuggling networks and cross-border criminal activity, making regular assessments and enhanced coordination essential. The multi-state exercise forms part of the Centre’s broader strategy to modernise border infrastructure, expand surveillance capabilities and ensure that policymaking remains informed by operational realities faced by personnel deployed on the ground.
