Amit Shah Assures Gorkha Issue Resolution Within Six Months In Darjeeling Rally

Amit Shah promises Gorkha issue resolution within six months if BJP forms government in Bengal.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s assurance on resolving long-pending Gorkha issues within six months of a potential BJP government in West Bengal has drawn strong reactions and support from political leaders in Darjeeling. The remarks were made during a campaign rally in Darjeeling on the final day of campaigning ahead of the first phase of the state Assembly elections scheduled for April 23.

Addressing the rally, Shah said that if the BJP comes to power in the state, it would work to ensure “satisfaction and happiness on every Gorkha’s face” by finding a suitable solution to their long-standing demands. He also criticised previous governments, including the Congress and the Trinamool Congress, alleging that they had failed to address the concerns of the Gorkha community.

The statement was welcomed by Bimal Gurung, president of the Gorkha Janmukti Morcha, who said the Home Minister’s remarks went beyond expectations. Gurung noted that Shah had addressed issues related to development, including concerns of women, youth, infrastructure such as highways, and healthcare facilities like a proposed cancer hospital. He also expressed political support for the BJP, urging voters in the region to back the party.

BJP leaders from the Darjeeling constituency also praised Shah’s speech. MP Raju Bista said the Home Minister had demonstrated a deep understanding of the challenges faced by the Gorkha community and the broader Darjeeling and Dooars regions. He described the assurance as a historic moment and accused the current state government of corruption and governance failures.

Similarly, BJP MLA Neeraj Zimba Tamang said Shah’s commitment reflected a sincere promise to resolve the Gorkha issue according to the wishes of the community. He expressed confidence that a BJP-led government would fulfil the assurances made during the campaign. The remarks have added political momentum in the region ahead of the polls, with the Gorkha issue once again emerging as a key electoral theme in the Darjeeling hills and surrounding areas.
