Amarnath Yatra: J&K LG Reviews Logistics And Safety Arrangements
Security review held ahead of annual Amarnath pilgrimage.
Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Thursday chaired a high-level security review meeting in Srinagar to assess security measures following a recent terror attack in Anantnag and to review arrangements for the ongoing Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra. The meeting focused on strengthening coordination among security agencies and ensuring the safety of pilgrims amid challenging weather conditions across the region.
The review meeting was attended by senior officials from the Army, Jammu and Kashmir Police, Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs), civil administration and other security agencies. Sinha said the authorities conducted a comprehensive assessment of logistics and safety arrangements for the Amarnath Yatra in view of heavy rainfall and adverse weather conditions affecting movement along the pilgrimage routes.
The Lieutenant Governor instructed all departments involved in the yatra management to maintain close coordination and ensure the safety, comfort and convenience of pilgrims. Due to inclement weather, the Amarnath Yatra remained suspended on Thursday as authorities continued to monitor conditions and prioritise the safety of devotees travelling to the holy cave shrine.

The security review also followed a terror attack in Anantnag town on Wednesday in which Jammu and Kashmir Police Head Constable Ashiq Hussain was killed. The policeman was reportedly shot at close range in the Lal Chowk area of Anantnag. The attack prompted security agencies to intensify operations against militants and their support networks.
Following the incident, Jammu and Kashmir Police launched action against suspected overground workers linked to terrorist groups and reportedly detained more than 3,000 such individuals across different districts of the Valley. The Resistance Front (TRF), an organisation linked to Lashkar-e-Taiba, claimed responsibility for the attack. Security forces have launched a major search operation to identify and track down those involved, while police have released an image of the suspected attacker seeking public assistance.
Manoj Sinha condemned the attack and assured that those responsible would be brought to justice. A wreath-laying ceremony was held at the Anantnag district police lines to honour the slain officer, while hundreds of people attended his funeral in his native village in the Beerwah area of Budgam district. Authorities continue to focus on maintaining security while ensuring the smooth resumption of the Amarnath Yatra when weather conditions improve.
