Ajit Pawar Orders Swift Rescue of Flood-Stranded Residents in Dharashiv
Deputy CM instructs urgent evacuation and NDRF deployment for Maharashtra flood victims.
Heavy rainfall has triggered severe flooding in Sakhat village, Paranda taluka, Dharashiv district, Maharashtra, leaving at least 12 people stranded, officials reported on Monday. Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar swiftly directed authorities to evacuate those trapped and ensure their safety, as the state grapples with the impact of relentless downpours. The flooding, caused by intense monsoon rains, has isolated the village, highlighting the vulnerability of low-lying areas in the region to extreme weather events.
In a telephonic conversation with Dharashiv District Collector Kirti Kiran Pujar, Pawar ordered immediate rescue operations to relocate stranded individuals to safer locations. He emphasized the deployment of a National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) team to the site and instructed officials to arrange helicopter support if necessary to expedite evacuations. The directive reflects the urgency of the situation, as floodwaters have disrupted access to the affected area, complicating rescue efforts.
Taking stock of the broader rainfall situation across Maharashtra, Pawar noted that multiple districts are experiencing heavy downpours, raising concerns about further flooding. He instructed district administrations, disaster management agencies, and local bodies to remain vigilant and prioritize timely evacuations in vulnerable areas. Additionally, Pawar ensured that NDRF and State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) teams are on standby to conduct relief and rescue operations as needed, reinforcing the state’s preparedness for worsening conditions.

“The state government stands firmly with citizens during this crisis,” Pawar said, assuring that farmers and affected families will receive comprehensive assistance. The flooding in Dharashiv underscores the growing challenges posed by climate-driven weather patterns in Maharashtra, where heavy rains have repeatedly disrupted lives and livelihoods. As rescue operations continue, the government’s focus remains on safeguarding residents and mitigating the crisis’s impact.
