Yamuna Floods Prompt Evacuations; 55 Families Rescued in Ghaziabad

NDRF aided evacuations; food and milk for infants; cattle fodder dispatched; embankment guarded.

Authorities in Uttar Pradesh's Ghaziabad district rescued at least 55 families from a village hit by flooding on Thursday, triggered by rising Yamuna River levels due to water releases from Haryana's Hathnikund barrage, officials reported.

The families, from Badarpur village along the Yamuna's banks in the Loni sub-division, were safely evacuated with assistance from a National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) team stationed in the area, according to Additional District Magistrate (Finance) Saurabh Bhatt.

"We've arranged food supplies, including milk for young children, for those rescued," Bhatt told PTI. He noted that temporary camps have been established for villagers, though many are hesitant to relocate.

Bhatt emphasized that the administration's primary focus is safeguarding the Yamuna embankment to stop floodwaters from spreading to additional villages. Irrigation department engineers are monitoring the structure around the clock.

In the affected areas, ambulances, a medical team from the health department, and essential medications are on standby. Fodder for livestock has also been distributed to villages including Badarpur, Mirpur Hindu, Pachayra, Cardamom, Lutfullapur Nawada, and Allipur, the ADM added.
