After Heavy Downpour, Moderate Rain Forecast Across 17 Tamil Nadu Districts

Several parts of Tamil Nadu, including Perambalur, Vellore, Virudhunagar and Dindigul districts, received heavy rain accompanied by strong winds, bringing relief from prevailing hot weather. The Regional Meteorological Centre has forecast moderate rain in 17 districts across the state on Sunday, with Chennai and its suburbs also likely to receive showers during the evening or night.

Heavy rain was reported in Perambalur and surrounding areas, including Arumadal, Kavulpalayam, Eraiyur, Perali and Thuraimangalam. Several parts of Tiruvannamalai district, including Arani, Kannamangalam, Sandavasal and Sevur, also experienced intense showers. In Vellore district, rain was recorded in Vellore city, Katpadi, Sathuvachari, Ponnai, Vallimalai, Latheri and Gudiyatham.

Pernambut in Vellore district witnessed heavy rainfall that caused severe waterlogging along the State Highway connecting Tamil Nadu with Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka. Rainwater accumulated across a stretch of about half a kilometre, making it difficult for motorists to navigate the affected section. Meanwhile, Sivakasi and neighbouring areas in Virudhunagar received heavy rain and gusty winds, while similar conditions were reported in parts of Dindigul district.

Evening showers brought down temperatures in Kodaikanal and were welcomed by tourists. Moderate rain was also recorded in parts of Theni district, while Nagapattinam and surrounding areas experienced rain accompanied by strong winds. Nannilam and adjoining areas in Tiruvarur received showers, while residents of Coimbatore and Udhagamandalam welcomed the change in weather after several days of unusually warm conditions.

The weather office said moderate rain was likely in the Nilgiris, Coimbatore, Tiruppur, Dindigul, Theni, Tirunelveli, Tenkasi, Virudhunagar, Kanyakumari, Madurai, Sivaganga, Tiruchi, Ariyalur, Perambalur, Pudukkottai, Tiruvannamalai and Vellore districts on Sunday. The showers have also brought relief to farmers preparing their fields for samba paddy cultivation.

Looking ahead, heavy rain is forecast in the Nilgiris on September 15 and 16, while Coimbatore could receive heavy showers on September 16. Chennai and its surrounding areas may also experience moderate rainfall during the evening or night on Sunday, according to the Regional Meteorological Centre.
