ABVP Delegation Meets CM Yogi After Barabanki Lathicharge, Demands Justice

A delegation from the ABVP, the student wing of the RSS, met Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Sunday

A delegation from the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP), the student wing of the RSS, met Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Sunday to address the recent police lathicharge on its members at Shri Ramswaroop Memorial University (SRMU) in Barabanki.

The hour-long meeting at the CM’s residence focused on alleged academic irregularities, particularly an unrecognized LLB course, and the violent police response during a protest on September 1, 2025. The ABVP delegation, including National Secretary Ankit Shukla, Regional Organising Secretaries Manoj Nikhra and Ghanshyam Shahi, and National Executive Member Srishti Singh, discussed the “academic anarchy” at SRMU.

Students had protested the university’s admission to an LLB course allegedly lacking Bar Council of India (BCI) recognition, accusing it of jeopardizing their future. The CM assured the delegation that their demands, including a high-level probe and action against university officials, would be addressed, emphasizing his government’s commitment to educational transparency. The lathicharge, which injured over 25 students, sparked widespread outrage.

CM Yogi ordered an investigation, resulting in the suspension of four police personnel and the removal of Circle Officer Harshit Chauhan. An FIR was filed against SRMU, and a demolition drive targeted an illegal structure on its campus.

The incident also drew political fire, with SP chief Akhilesh Yadav demanding compensation for the injured and criticizing the BJP’s governance. Tensions escalated when UP minister Om Prakash Rajbhar called ABVP members “goons,” prompting a legal notice from ABVP’s Adarsh Tiwari for defamation.
