Aarogya Setu 2.0 Launched By JP Nadda as Digital Health Record App
Jagat Prakash Nadda launches Aarogya Setu 2.0 as a digital personal health record app.
The Centre on Monday launched Aarogya Setu 2.0, marking a major upgrade of the earlier COVID-19 contact tracing application into a full-fledged Personal Health Record (PHR) platform under the Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission (ABDM). The revamped app was formally launched by Union Health and Family Welfare Minister JP Nadda in New Delhi. Officials said the new version is designed to function as a unified citizen-facing digital health gateway. It aims to simplify access to healthcare services across government and private systems.
The transformation of Aarogya Setu into a digital health platform comes after its role during the pandemic was phased out. The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology has transferred the application to the National Health Authority (NHA). The integration is intended to strengthen India’s expanding digital health ecosystem under ABDM. The upgraded platform is expected to serve as a central system for managing health data securely. It will also help streamline health service delivery across institutions.
Aarogya Setu 2.0 introduces several ABDM-enabled services, including creation of the ABHA health ID, digital health record management, and scan-and-share registration features. The app also uses artificial intelligence tools to digitise medical documents such as lab reports in PDF or image formats. These records are then organised into personalised health dashboards for easier access and monitoring. Authorities said this will improve continuity of care by making patient records more accessible across facilities.

The app also enables users to track key health indicators such as vitals, medication schedules, and fitness goals. It supports integration with wearable devices, allowing monitoring of steps, calories burned, heart rate, and glucose levels. These features are aimed at encouraging preventive healthcare and daily health awareness. Users can also manage family members under a single account, making it a shared health management system. Consent-based data sharing has been built in to ensure privacy compliance.
In addition, the platform includes a PM-JAY wallet showing insurance coverage, utilisation, and family-wise benefits. It also provides details of Central Armed Police Forces health policies and private insurance information, including claims and balances. Users can locate nearby hospitals, clinics, and diagnostic centres using GPS, along with real-time blood availability via e-RaktKosh. Ambulance booking and access to empanelled PM-JAY hospitals for cashless treatment are also included.
Alongside the app launch, JP Nadda also introduced the Ayushman Sarathi PM-JAY WhatsApp chatbot, the Unified Health Interface (UHI), and eSushrut@Clinic hospital management software developed by C-DAC. Officials said Aarogya Setu 2.0, which has nearly 20 crore downloads, is expected to significantly accelerate the adoption of digital healthcare services in India. The initiatives collectively aim to create a more connected, efficient, and technology-driven healthcare system nationwide.
