24,000 CRPF Personnel Mount Final Assault against Naxals in Telangana
Heroic CRPF Officer Loses Leg as Forces Launch Final Assault on Naxal Stronghold in Telangana
Security forces have launched a decisive "final assault" on Naxal insurgents holed up in the Karregutta hills along the Telangana-Chhattisgarh border, marking the climax of India’s largest-ever anti-Naxal operation, initiated by the CRPF on April 21.
The operation, involving over 24,000 personnel, has seen intense combat, with more than 120 improvised explosive devices (IEDs) recovered and nearly 10 security personnel injured, including a heroic CRPF officer who lost his leg.
Assistant Commandant Sagar Borade, 32, of the 204 CoBRA battalion, sustained catastrophic injuries on May 4 when an IED detonated while he courageously rescued a wounded jawan.

Despite losing his left leg, Borade led from the front, earning a recommendation for a gallantry medal. He was airlifted from Raipur to AIIMS Delhi for treatment, supported by a dedicated air ambulance stationed for the operation. On Tuesday, two more CRPF jawans suffered major IED injuries and are being evacuated for medical care.
The operation, backed by four helicopters, 40 drones, and NTRO satellite imagery, targets top Naxal leaders, including PLGA Battalion No. 1 commander Hidma, believed to be hiding in bunker-laden, heavily mined terrain.
Three female Naxals have been killed, and a cache of weapons and explosives seized. The addition of 2,000 CRPF troops on Monday night has intensified the push to neutralize senior cadres like Hidma and Deva.
Despite challenges like scorching heat and treacherous terrain, forces have reclaimed Karregutta hill, a former Maoist stronghold, hoisting the tricolor.
With Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s March 2026 deadline to eradicate Naxalism looming, this operation aims to dismantle the insurgency’s last bastion. A senior officer stated, “The operation is nearing its logical conclusion,” signaling a potential turning point in India’s fight against Left-Wing Extremism.
