203 Students Honoured at Meghalaya IT Awards 2026; CM Sangma Urges Innovation

Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma on Wednesday encouraged students to pursue their passions with determination and adapt to the rapidly evolving technological landscape, while addressing the Meghalaya IT Awards 2026 ceremony in Shillong. The event, held at the U Soso Tham Auditorium, recognized academic excellence among students of the 2025 academic year.
Speaking to the awardees, Chief Minister Sangma congratulated them for their accomplishments, noting that their success reflected years of discipline, sacrifice, and perseverance. “What you have achieved today is something every student aspires to, but only a few accomplish,” he said, emphasizing that the ceremony celebrated their dedication and hard work.
Highlighting the laptops distributed to awardees, the Chief Minister remarked that the devices represent more than material value. “It represents recognition, encouragement, and our belief in your potential,” he said, urging students to leverage technology as a tool for growth and innovation.

Chief Minister Sangma also addressed the broader technological shifts shaping the global landscape, including advancements in Artificial Intelligence. He noted that while disruptions such as IT sector layoffs may be concerning, they also create new opportunities. Citing Meghalaya’s growing status as a hub for technology-driven innovation, he highlighted the Shillong IT Park, which is attracting companies working in advanced domains.
Sharing a personal anecdote from his own entrepreneurial journey after studying at the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania, Sangma emphasized the importance of an enabling ecosystem. He said the state government is now focused on fostering entrepreneurship, skill development, and innovation to support young talent.
Education Minister Lahkmen Rymbui also spoke at the event, underscoring the importance of digital learning and the integral role of technology in daily life. A total of 203 students from various state boards were honored, with laptops distributed as a symbol of recognition and encouragement, reflecting the Meghalaya government’s commitment to empowering students for future success.
