118 Roads Closed In Uttarakhand, Rivers Swollen As Red Alert Issued
Monsoon rains disrupt roads and raise flood concerns.
Heavy monsoon rainfall has triggered widespread disruption across Uttarakhand, with 118 roads blocked due to landslides, debris and falling stones. The state authorities are monitoring the situation as swollen rivers, damaged highways and severe weather warnings have raised concerns in several districts.
According to officials, the blocked roads include 22 in Rudraprayag, 21 in Dehradun, 16 in Chamoli, 13 in Nainital and 12 in Pithoragarh. Continuous rainfall has affected road connectivity in hilly regions, with debris clearance operations underway to restore movement on affected routes.
Traffic movement on the Gangotri National Highway was temporarily disrupted after debris from a landslide blocked the road near Nalupani. A 100-metre stretch of the Yamunotri National Highway near Syanachatti was also damaged following a landslide triggered by heavy rain on Thursday evening, affecting travel in the region.

The Meteorological Department has issued weather alerts for multiple districts, including red and orange alerts. An orange alert has been announced for Dehradun, Haridwar, Pauri, Nainital, Tehri and Udham Singh Nagar, while specific areas of Udham Singh Nagar, Nainital and Champawat have been placed under a red alert due to the possibility of extremely heavy rainfall.
The rising rainfall has also caused water levels in major rivers to increase. The Bhagirathi River in Uttarkashi was recorded at 1,120.20 metres against its danger mark of 1,123 metres. At Koteshwar in Tehri, the river level reached 538.30 metres against the danger mark of 545 metres, while at Devprayag it rose to 457.16 metres compared to the danger level of 463 metres.
Authorities have advised residents and tourists to avoid unnecessary travel during the alert period and follow safety instructions issued by local administrations. The Alaknanda River at Badrinath has also approached its danger level, with officials continuing to monitor river conditions and rainfall patterns across the state.
