Zelensky: Iran Conflict May Shift Global Focus, Affect Military Support To Ukraine
Zelensky warns that the Iran conflict may divert global attention and military aid from Ukraine’s fight against Russia.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has warned that the ongoing conflict in Iran could divert global attention and military resources away from Ukraine’s fight against Russia, potentially undermining Kyiv’s defence efforts.
In an interview with CNN’s Fareed Zakaria on GPS, Zelensky said that continued instability in West Asia poses “big risks” for Ukraine, particularly in the supply of air-defence systems and missiles. He specifically cited potential shortages of PAC-2 and PAC-3 systems used in Patriot missile defence. Ukraine has relied heavily on these Western air-defence systems to counter large-scale Russian missile and drone attacks.
“If the war continues, of course, we will have these challenges, and the challenges will only increase,” Zelensky said, stressing the strain on military resources that could result from the Iran conflict. He noted that Russia could benefit from the shifting focus, potentially strengthening Moscow’s position and complicating efforts to end its invasion of Ukraine.

Zelensky also highlighted Ukraine’s support to its partners in the Middle East, including sharing expertise in drone warfare and sending military experts to assist allies facing Iranian drone attacks. “We are ready to help Americans, and we are ready to help also Middle East allies,” he said, underscoring Kyiv’s strategic partnership with Washington.
The Ukrainian leader urged the international community to maintain pressure on Moscow and intensify diplomatic efforts to end the war. “If we really want to stop the war, we need to meet. We need more pressure on Russia,” Zelensky said, calling for coordinated action to prevent Russia from exploiting the crisis in Iran.
Analysts say Zelensky’s warning reflects broader concerns that geopolitical crises outside Europe could strain the flow of military aid to Ukraine, complicating its ongoing defence against Russia’s offensive.
