VP Radhakrishnan Holds Key Talks with Seychelles President in New Delhi

VP Radhakrishnan meets Seychelles President to strengthen bilateral ties.

Vice-President C P Radhakrishnan met President Patrick Herminie of the Republic of Seychelles in New Delhi on Monday to discuss deepening bilateral cooperation across multiple sectors. The meeting highlighted the longstanding partnership between the two maritime nations, marking 50 years of diplomatic relations and reinforcing their shared commitment to peace, stability, and prosperity in the Indian Ocean region.

During the discussions, both leaders explored collaboration in maritime security, renewable energy, higher education, the medical sector, hospitality, and digitalisation. VP Radhakrishnan recalled his October 2025 visit to Seychelles for President Herminie’s swearing-in ceremony, emphasizing the warm and time-tested ties between the two countries. The leaders reaffirmed their vision for a stable and prosperous Western Indian Ocean.

Earlier in the day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi held talks with President Herminie, congratulating him on his electoral victory in October 2025. The discussions covered the full spectrum of bilateral relations, highlighting the people-centric nature of India-Seychelles ties and their role in reinforcing regional security under India’s Vision MAHASAGAR initiative.

The two sides also announced a Joint Vision for Sustainability, Economic Growth, and Security through Enhanced Linkages (SESEL). This framework is designed to leverage the respective strengths of both countries and provide a roadmap for collaboration in trade, climate resilience, maritime cooperation, and technological innovation.

In addition, several Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) were exchanged covering health, digital services, meteorology, culture, ocean science, food security, and governance. These agreements aim to enhance practical cooperation and create sustainable development opportunities in Seychelles while strengthening India’s strategic presence in the region.

President Herminie expressed appreciation for India’s role as a trusted partner, highlighting New Delhi’s support for Seychelles’ development agenda. The visit, coinciding with Seychelles’ 50th Independence anniversary, underscores the mutual commitment of both nations to expand, modernize, and deepen their multifaceted partnership for the coming decades.
