Trump Calls US Navy “Like Pirates” Amid Iran Blockade Operations

Trump likens US Navy actions to pirates during Iran blockade operations.

U.S. President Donald Trump has said the U.S. Navy is acting “like pirates” while enforcing a naval blockade on Iranian ports, a remark that has drawn global attention amid escalating tensions in West Asia.Trump made the comment while describing recent U.S. military actions, including the seizure of an Iranian-linked vessel and its cargo. He said American forces had taken control of ships, oil, and goods during the operation, adding that such actions were “very profitable.”

The blockade forms part of a broader conflict involving the United States, Israel, and Iran that began earlier this year. As part of the confrontation, Washington has moved to restrict maritime traffic linked to Iran, while Tehran has responded by limiting access through the strategically critical Strait of Hormuz, one of the world’s most vital energy shipping routes.

The Strait of Hormuz is a key chokepoint for global energy supplies, handling roughly a fifth of the world’s oil and liquefied natural gas shipments. Disruptions in the region have already led to volatility in global markets, with shipping activity dropping sharply and oil prices rising amid fears of prolonged instability.

Trump’s remarks have sparked criticism from analysts and political observers, who have questioned both the language used and the legality of the blockade under international maritime law. Some experts have argued that such actions, including ship seizures, could raise serious legal and ethical concerns if they target neutral or commercial vessels.

Despite a reported pause in direct hostilities following a ceasefire announcement, U.S. forces continue to maintain a naval presence in the region, enforcing restrictions on Iranian shipping. The situation remains fluid, with diplomatic efforts ongoing but no clear resolution in sight, keeping global energy markets and geopolitical tensions on edge.
