Shocking Scandal: Indian-Origin Doctor in US Accused of Trading Opioids for Sexual Favors
New Jersey physician faces serious charges of medical fraud and sexual assault in a disturbing abuse of power.
An Indian-origin doctor in New Jersey, Ritesh Kalra, 51, faces grave accusations of medical fraud and sexual assault, shaking the local community. Authorities allege Kalra distributed opioids without legitimate medical reasons, solicited sexual favors from female patients in exchange for prescriptions, and defrauded New Jersey Medicaid by billing for nonexistent patient visits.
Former employees reported disturbing complaints from female patients, who claimed Kalra subjected them to sexual touching and demanded acts like oral sex to secure their opioid prescriptions. One patient alleged multiple instances of sexual assault, including forced anal sex during supposed clinical appointments. Another patient reportedly received opioid prescriptions from Kalra while incarcerated at Essex County Correctional Facility, despite having no contact with him.
Kalra’s alleged misconduct extended to billing Medicaid for in-person visits and counseling sessions that never took place, further exploiting the public healthcare system. US Attorney Alina Habba condemned Kalra’s actions, stating, “Physicians hold a position of profound responsibility, but Dr. Kalra allegedly used his to fuel addiction, exploit vulnerable patients, and defraud public healthcare.” She emphasized that such abuse of medical authority endangers lives and vowed to pursue those who misuse their licenses for personal gain.
