Siddaramaiah Snaps at Shivakumar Mention in Explosive Outburst
Karnataka CM Siddaramaiah fumes over naming absent DK Shivakumar at event.
At a Congress event in Mysuru district on Saturday, Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah visibly lost his temper when prompted to mention Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar during his speech at Sadhana Samavesha, a program showcasing the state government’s achievements. Shivakumar, who had spoken earlier but left for Bengaluru citing an emergency, was not acknowledged by Siddaramaiah while introducing dignitaries.
When a Congress leader suggested naming him, the Chief Minister snapped, “DK Shivakumar is not here, right? Please go sit down. What kind of lawyer are you?” He emphasized protocol, stating only those present should be mentioned, in remarks that went viral on social media.
The incident underscores ongoing tensions within the Karnataka Congress over the Chief Minister’s post, fueled by speculation that Shivakumar, a key figure in the party’s 2023 election victory, might replace Siddaramaiah. Despite the Congress high command dismissing any leadership change and Shivakumar publicly backing Siddaramaiah, their strained dynamic has surfaced at public events.
Reports of a rotational chief ministership agreement after the 2023 win remain unconfirmed, adding to the political drama.
