Satabdi Roy Joins Rebel Trinamool MPs, Cites Lack of Access and Widespread Party Corruption

Rebel MP Satabdi Roy says Mamata changed and cites rampant corruption for her exit.

Fresh turmoil has erupted within the All India Trinamool Congress after a group of rebel MPs openly challenged the leadership of Mamata Banerjee. Among the most prominent voices is Satabdi Roy, who claimed that the party chief had changed significantly over the past few years, leading to growing dissatisfaction among several leaders. Roy, a four-time parliamentarian and long-time Banerjee loyalist, said her decision was driven by concerns over governance and representation rather than personal differences.

Roy, who was recently chosen as deputy leader of the rebel faction, said many party members felt increasingly disconnected from the leadership. According to her, only a select group of leaders had direct access to Banerjee, while others struggled to communicate concerns or seek support for constituency-related issues. She argued that elected representatives were often excluded from key decisions, creating frustration within the party ranks.

The rebellion became more visible after a group of Trinamool MPs met leaders of the ruling alliance and indicated their willingness to support the NDA. Fellow rebel leader Kakoli Ghosh Dastidar claimed that the number of dissatisfied MPs had risen to around 20. Members of the group have alleged that internal democracy weakened over time and that repeated attempts to raise concerns were ignored by the party leadership.

Roy also leveled serious allegations of corruption within the party, claiming that irregularities existed at multiple levels of the organization. She said public concerns over these issues had grown steadily and that remaining silent was no longer an option. Defending the timing of the revolt, Roy maintained that recent developments had made underlying problems impossible to overlook and compelled leaders to speak openly.

The political crisis presents a significant challenge for Banerjee and the Trinamool Congress at a crucial time. With senior MPs questioning leadership decisions, organizational functioning, and allegations of corruption, the party now faces pressure to contain internal dissent. The developments have intensified political debate in West Bengal and could have broader implications for the party’s position in national politics in the months ahead.
