Jaishankar holds talks with Kuwait and Singapore amid regional crisis.

S. Jaishankar held discussions with his counterparts from Kuwait and Singapore as India intensified diplomatic outreach amid the escalating Middle East crisis triggered by the ongoing conflict involving Iran and the United States.

According to official statements, Jaishankar spoke with Kuwait’s Foreign Minister Sheikh Jarrah Jaber Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah, with talks focusing on the evolving regional situation and the safety of the Indian diaspora in the Gulf nation. The minister highlighted the importance of monitoring developments closely, given the large number of Indian nationals living and working in the region.

In a separate conversation, Jaishankar also spoke with Singapore’s Foreign Minister Vivian Balakrishnan, where both sides exchanged views on the broader implications of the West Asia conflict. Discussions centred on geopolitical and economic impacts, including disruptions to energy supplies and global trade routes.

The diplomatic engagements come at a time of heightened tensions following the United States’ move to impose a naval blockade targeting Iranian ports, significantly escalating the conflict. The Strait of Hormuz, a crucial global shipping corridor handling a substantial share of the world’s oil and liquefied natural gas, has emerged as a key flashpoint in the crisis.

India has been actively engaging multiple stakeholders in the region, reflecting its strategic interest in ensuring stability in West Asia, a vital source of energy imports and home to millions of Indian expatriates. Recent outreach has included conversations with leaders from the UAE, Iran, and Qatar, underscoring New Delhi’s balanced diplomatic approach.

Analysts say these high-level interactions signal India’s intent to safeguard its economic and security interests while supporting diplomatic solutions to de-escalate tensions. With the conflict impacting global energy markets and trade flows, continued engagement with regional and international partners is expected to remain a key component of India’s foreign policy in the coming days.
