Noida Police Report Attempt By ‘Outsiders’ To Trigger Unrest
Police say outsiders tried to trigger unrest, security tightened across Noida.
Police in Noida have said that “outsiders” attempted to incite unrest following large-scale worker protests that had initially dispersed peacefully, even as authorities moved swiftly to contain violence and restore order.
According to officials, tens of thousands of industrial workers had gathered across multiple locations in the Gautam Buddh Nagar district to demand higher wages, fixed working hours, and better labour conditions. While most demonstrations ended without incident, police said a group from outside the district entered border areas shortly after and tried to provoke tension and violence. Several individuals have since been detained and at least seven FIRs registered in connection with the disturbances.
Police Commissioner Laxmi Singh stated that these “anti-social elements” moved through affected areas attempting to escalate the situation. Authorities added that surveillance has been intensified and efforts are ongoing to identify others involved. Officials emphasised that law enforcement exercised restraint, using minimal force while working to disperse crowds and prevent further escalation.

The unrest, centred in industrial zones such as Phase-2 and Sector 63, saw incidents of arson, stone-pelting, and vandalism at select locations. Vehicles were set on fire and clashes broke out between protesters and police, prompting the deployment of additional security forces. The violence also led to major traffic disruptions and heightened alerts in neighbouring Delhi to prevent any spillover.
The protests were primarily driven by long-standing grievances over wage disparities, overtime pay, and working conditions. Workers pointed to differences in minimum wages between Uttar Pradesh and neighbouring Haryana as a key trigger. In response, authorities said that four out of five major demands have already been accepted, with a high-level committee set up to address the remaining issues.
Officials have since confirmed that the situation is now under control, with peace largely restored across the district. Police have urged residents to avoid rumours and cooperate with authorities, while maintaining a strong security presence in sensitive areas to prevent any further disturbances.
