Qatar Condemns Iranian Civilian Targets, Declares They “Cannot Go Unanswered”

Qatar condemns Iranian strikes on civilian infrastructure and vows they will not go unanswered.

Qatar's foreign ministry has strongly condemned Iranian missile and drone attacks that targeted civilian infrastructure, including Hamad International Airport, declaring that such actions "cannot go unanswered" and that Iran must pay a price for what it described as a blatant assault on Qatari sovereignty and its people.

In statements to CNN and other outlets on March 2, 2026, Foreign Ministry spokesperson Majed Al Ansari confirmed that Qatari air defenses successfully intercepted multiple Iranian projectiles aimed at civilian sites. The attacks, part of Iran's ongoing retaliatory campaign following US and Israeli strikes on Iranian targets, have extended beyond military installations to include commercial and civilian assets. Qatar reported intercepting over 100 missiles and scores of drones in recent days, with around 20 injuries recorded from the broader wave of strikes, primarily due to debris or limited impacts.

The incidents have included drone strikes on energy facilities, such as a water tank at a power plant in Mesaieed and an installation in Ras Laffan Industrial City affiliated with QatarEnergy, though no human casualties were reported from those specific hits. Qatar's Ministry of Defense emphasized that damage assessments are underway, with operations at key sites remaining secure. These developments mark a significant escalation, as Iran has widened its responses to encompass Gulf states hosting US military presence, including Qatar's Al Udeid Air Base, while increasingly affecting civilian and economic infrastructure critical to regional stability.

Qatar is not currently engaging diplomatically with Iran, according to the spokesperson, who highlighted the violation of sovereignty and the endangerment of civilians. In a joint statement with the United States, Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Jordan, Kuwait, and the United Arab Emirates, Qatar condemned the "indiscriminate and reckless" nature of the attacks, which have targeted sovereign territories across the region and threatened broader stability. The coalition described the strikes as a dangerous escalation that must be addressed to prevent further destabilization.

The attacks have heightened concerns over the safety of aviation and energy hubs in the Gulf, with explosions reported in Doha and disruptions rippling through regional travel and trade. Qatar has bolstered defenses and urged restraint amid fears of prolonged conflict. Authorities continue to monitor the situation closely, advising residents to follow official updates while emphasizing readiness to defend national interests.

This latest rhetoric from Doha underscores a unified Gulf stance against perceived aggression, with implications for energy security and international alliances in the escalating US-Israel-Iran confrontation. As the conflict enters its third day of retaliatory exchanges, the focus remains on de-escalation efforts even as Qatar reserves the right to respond appropriately to protect its territory and population.
