University Of Birmingham Opens Applications For Rs 10 Lakh PG Award

UK university introduces substantial postgraduate funding support for eligible Indian applicants.

The University of Birmingham has launched the India Postgraduate Chancellor's Scholarship, offering £10,000 (approximately Rs 10 lakh) towards tuition fees for eligible Indian students pursuing full-time postgraduate Master's programmes at its UK campus starting in September 2026.

The scholarship, available for the first year of study only, aims to support high-achieving Indian applicants in accessing world-class education at one of the UK's leading research universities. Applications are now open, with a deadline of May 31, 2026. This represents an increase from previous years—in 2025, the university awarded 50 scholarships of £5,000 each, while the 2026 intake features 15 awards at the higher £10,000 value, underscoring growing commitment to Indian talent amid rising interest in UK postgraduate studies.

To qualify, candidates must be domiciled in India, classified as overseas fee payers, and have received and firmly accepted an offer for a full-time postgraduate taught programme commencing in September 2026. Applicants are also required to pay any necessary deposit and demonstrate sufficient funds to cover remaining tuition fees and living expenses. The award is competitive and merit-based, with no separate application form mentioned beyond meeting the eligibility criteria through the standard admissions process—interested students should apply for their chosen programme first and then check scholarship status via the university's portal.

This initiative aligns with the University of Birmingham's broader efforts to attract international students, including other scholarships such as the Future Skills Scholarship (offering up to £12,500 for specific career-oriented Master's courses like data science, business analytics, and public health). The Chancellor's award targets a wide range of postgraduate taught degrees, providing financial relief in a competitive global education landscape where UK tuition fees for international students often exceed £20,000 annually.

Prospective applicants are encouraged to visit the official University of Birmingham website for detailed eligibility, programme listings, and application guidance. With the deadline approaching in late May 2026, early preparation—including securing an offer and preparing financial evidence—is advised to maximize chances. The scholarship enhances opportunities for Indian students to gain advanced qualifications from a globally ranked institution known for research excellence in fields ranging from engineering and sciences to humanities and business.

Overall, this announcement reflects strengthened UK-India educational ties, offering a timely boost for students planning postgraduate studies abroad in 2026. Successful recipients will join a diverse community at the Edgbaston campus, benefiting from cutting-edge facilities and strong career support networks.
