Pope Leo XIV Appeals For Peace, Dialogue To End Middle East War
Pope Leo XIV on Sunday renewed his appeal for peace in the Middle East, urging an immediate end to the ongoing conflict and calling on leaders to reopen channels of dialogue to prevent further suffering in the region.
Speaking during his weekly Angelus prayer at the St. Peter's Square in Vatican City, the pontiff expressed deep concern over the escalating violence that has affected millions across the Middle East. Addressing the gathered faithful and global audience, the pope said the region had endured two weeks of intense fighting that has caused widespread devastation.
“Dear brothers and sisters, for two weeks the peoples of the Middle East have suffered the atrocious violence of war,” he said. The pope noted that thousands of innocent people have been killed in the conflict, while many more have been forced to flee their homes in search of safety.

The pontiff appealed directly to leaders and parties involved in the conflict, urging them to take immediate steps toward de-escalation. Speaking in Italian, he said he was addressing those responsible for the violence on behalf of Christians living in the Middle East as well as “all women and men of goodwill.”
“Cease fire! Let paths of dialogue be reopened!” the pope said, emphasizing that violence cannot deliver the justice, stability, and peace that people in the region hope for. His remarks reflected growing international concern over the humanitarian toll of the conflict and the risk of further escalation.
Religious leaders, humanitarian organizations and several governments have also called for restraint and diplomatic engagement to resolve the crisis. The pope’s appeal is part of a long-standing tradition in which the Vatican uses its moral authority to advocate for peace and humanitarian relief during global conflicts.
As tensions in the Middle East continue, the Vatican has urged the international community to prioritize dialogue and humanitarian assistance. The pope concluded his message by expressing hope that renewed diplomatic efforts could bring an end to the violence and restore stability for the people of the region.
