PM Modi Expresses Gratitude To Indian Community In Italy During Rome Visit

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has expressed gratitude to the Indian community in Italy for their warm reception during his visit to Rome, as India seeks to deepen its strategic partnership with Italy through high-level diplomatic engagement. The Prime Minister’s remarks came after a series of meetings and public interactions during the opening leg of his official visit.

In a post on social media platform X, Modi thanked the Indian diaspora in Italy, noting their “deep affection for India” and their role in strengthening India-Italy relations. He said the community continues to make India proud globally through its contributions abroad, highlighting the importance of people-to-people ties in advancing diplomatic relations between the two countries.

During his visit, Modi attended a dinner hosted by Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, where the two leaders exchanged views on a range of bilateral and global issues. Modi also shared images from his engagements in Rome and said he looked forward to further discussions aimed at strengthening cooperation between India and Italy.

The Italian Prime Minister welcomed Modi with a message on X, saying, “Welcome to Rome, my friend!”, underscoring the growing personal rapport between the two leaders. The visit comes at a time when both countries are working to expand collaboration across multiple sectors, including defence, energy, technology, and trade.

According to India’s Ministry of External Affairs, the visit is part of efforts to implement the Joint Strategic Action Plan 2025–2029, which outlines expanded cooperation in areas such as clean energy, innovation, science and technology, investment, and cultural exchange. Modi is also scheduled to hold bilateral talks with Italian President Sergio Mattarella during the visit.

Officials said the engagement in Rome is expected to add new momentum to the India-Italy strategic partnership, with both sides aiming to adopt a joint declaration to further institutionalise cooperation. The visit marks another step in India’s broader diplomatic outreach across Europe, focusing on strengthening economic ties and strategic alignment with key partners.
