PM Modi's Indonesia visit focuses on strategic cooperation talks.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi received a ceremonial welcome in Jakarta on Tuesday as he began the first leg of his three-nation overseas visit to strengthen India's diplomatic and strategic ties with partner countries. Modi arrived in Indonesia on Monday and was welcomed with an escort by an Indonesian Air Force fighter jet before receiving a personal reception from Indonesian President at the airport. The visit is expected to focus on strengthening bilateral cooperation between India and Indonesia, with discussions likely to cover key areas including defence, food security, trade, maritime cooperation and regional stability.
The engagement comes as both countries seek to expand their strategic partnership amid changing geopolitical dynamics in the Indo-Pacific region. During his stay in Jakarta, Modi is scheduled to hold talks with Indonesian leadership on a range of issues of mutual interest. Defence cooperation is expected to be a major area of discussion, with India and Indonesia sharing common interests in maintaining peace and security in the region, particularly in view of growing strategic challenges in the Indo-Pacific.
Food security is also expected to feature prominently in the discussions, as both countries look to enhance cooperation in agriculture, supply chains and sustainable development. India and Indonesia have previously worked together in several areas, including economic partnerships and cultural exchanges, and the latest visit is aimed at further expanding these ties.
