Pezeshkian Urges War’s End As Iran Seeks Resolution From A Position Of Strength

Pezeshkian calls for ending war from strength.

Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian on Friday said Tehran should seek an end to the months-long war with the United States, arguing that Iran was now in a position of strength and dignity. His comments came as tensions between Tehran and Washington remained high, with Iran strongly criticising the latest US efforts to increase economic pressure through additional sanctions. Pezeshkian said the conflict should now be brought to an end while portraying Iran as having emerged stronger from the confrontation. "It is better that we bring the war to an end now as we are in a position of power and dignity," Pezeshkian said during a meeting with doctors. He claimed that the international community recognised Iran's position and viewed the United States negatively over its conduct during the conflict.

According to the Iranian president, Washington had targeted schools, hospitals and infrastructure, which he described as violations of international rules. Pezeshkian's remarks represent a significant statement from Tehran amid an ongoing confrontation with Washington. While calling for an end to the war, he framed the move as one based on Iran's claimed strength rather than weakness or a need to capitulate to US demands. His comments suggested that Tehran wanted any effort to end the fighting to take place from what it considers a position of political and military advantage. The Iranian president also sought to highlight what he described as international opposition to the United States.

He said the "whole world acknowledges our victory" and argued that America's actions had generated widespread hostility. His remarks were made as Iranian officials continued to defend the country's position and reject pressure from Washington. Tehran has repeatedly maintained that it will not accept measures that it considers an attempt to undermine its sovereignty or force political concessions. The comments followed a statement from Iran's Foreign Ministry accusing the United States of "economic terrorism" and "crimes against humanity". The accusation came after Washington announced plans to intensify sanctions aimed at increasing economic pressure on Tehran.

The US has defended sanctions as a tool for pressuring Iran, while Iranian authorities have consistently condemned such measures as unjust and harmful to the country's population. Economic sanctions have been a central component of the broader confrontation between Iran and the United States. Washington has used restrictions targeting Iran's economy and key sectors to increase pressure on Tehran, while Iranian officials have argued that such measures constitute collective punishment and violate international principles. The latest exchange of accusations comes as both sides continue to defend their respective positions over the conflict and the conditions required for its conclusion.

Pezeshkian's call to end the war also comes amid continuing concerns over the humanitarian consequences of the fighting. His reference to attacks on schools, hospitals and infrastructure reflects Tehran's effort to emphasise the damage caused by the conflict. The Iranian government has portrayed the US campaign as an attack on civilian infrastructure, while Washington's position and justification for its military and economic measures remain contested by Iranian authorities. Despite calling for an end to the war, Pezeshkian did not indicate that Iran was prepared to accept Washington's demands or outline specific conditions for a settlement. Instead, he emphasised that Tehran was seeking an end to the conflict from what he described as a position of "power and dignity".

His comments therefore combine an appeal to end the fighting with a strong assertion of Iran's political standing. The remarks are likely to be closely watched as international efforts and diplomatic discussions surrounding the conflict continue. Any move towards ending the war would require agreement on major political, security and economic issues between the opposing sides. For now, Tehran and Washington remain sharply divided, with Iran rejecting US sanctions and accusing Washington of serious violations, while the United States continues to use economic pressure as a means of influencing Iranian policy.
