Iran President Highlights India Ties In 80th Independence Day Message

Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian on Saturday extended Independence Day greetings to India and Prime Minister Narendra Modi, describing the longstanding ties between the two countries as a valuable asset for strengthening bilateral relations. His message came as India marked its 80th Independence Day, with leaders from several countries conveying their wishes to the Indian government and people.

According to the Iranian President's official website, Pezeshkian emphasised the deep historical, cultural, civilisational and people-to-people connections between India and Iran. He noted that these longstanding links could help both countries explore new opportunities and build a stronger relationship based on shared interests.

Pezeshkian also reaffirmed Iran's willingness to further strengthen comprehensive relations with India. He emphasised mutual trust and respect while pointing to the existing capacities between the two countries that could be used to expand cooperation and advance their common interests.

In his message, the Iranian President also conveyed his wishes for India's continued progress, prosperity and happiness. He expressed hope that the long-standing relationship between India and Iran would continue to grow and strengthen, underlining Tehran's interest in maintaining close ties with New Delhi.

India received Independence Day greetings from several other countries as well. External Affairs Ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal expressed gratitude to the foreign ministries of Uzbekistan, Guatemala and Peru for their messages. Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese also conveyed his greetings, recalling India's difficult journey towards independence and the determination that shaped its emergence as a free nation.

Russian President Vladimir Putin, Maldivian President Mohamed Muizzu, French President Emmanuel Macron and Bhutanese Prime Minister Tshering Tobgay were among other leaders who sent messages to mark the occasion. The international greetings highlighted India's progress and its growing role globally, while reaffirming interest in stronger partnerships and continued friendship with New Delhi.
