Palestinian Authority Praises Trump’s Peace Initiative, Urges Swift Action

Palestinian Authority embraces Trump's bold 20-point peace proposal.

The Palestinian Authority has warmly welcomed US President Donald Trump’s ambitious 20-point peace plan for Gaza, unveiled following high-level discussions with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. The plan, described as a pivotal step toward resolving the ongoing conflict, calls for an immediate cessation of hostilities in Gaza and the release of all hostages held by Hamas within a tight 72-hour window. While Hamas has yet to formally accept the proposal, the Palestinian Authority expressed optimism about its potential to reshape the region’s future.

In an official statement, the State of Palestine praised Trump’s “sincere and determined efforts” to halt the war in Gaza, emphasizing confidence in his leadership to forge a lasting path to peace. “The State of Palestine welcomes President Donald J. Trump’s initiative to end the war and affirms its trust in his ability to deliver a just resolution,” the statement read. The Palestinian Authority highlighted the critical role of the United States in facilitating peace, underscoring the plan’s alignment with international law and regional aspirations.

The comprehensive 20-point plan outlines several key objectives, including ensuring the unification of Palestinian territories and institutions across the Gaza Strip and the West Bank, including East Jerusalem. It commits to halting land annexation, preventing forced displacement of Palestinians, and stopping unilateral actions that violate global norms. Additionally, the plan emphasizes the delivery of substantial humanitarian aid to Gaza to address the region’s pressing needs.

The Palestinian Authority reiterated its vision for a modern, democratic, and non-militarized Palestinian state, one that embraces pluralism and ensures the peaceful transfer of power. “This peace plan paves the way for a just and lasting solution, based on a two-state framework, where an independent and sovereign State of Palestine coexists peacefully with the State of Israel,” the statement noted.

Expressing readiness to collaborate with the United States and other regional partners, the Palestinian Authority called for constructive engagement to achieve stability and security for all peoples in the region. The statement, released to the media in New Delhi by the Embassy of Palestine, signals a renewed hope for diplomacy amid a complex and protracted conflict.
