Kerala CM Urges End to Gaza Violence, Reaffirms Support for Palestine

Kerala CM urges global action to end violence in Gaza and support Palestine.

Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan reiterated his government’s unwavering solidarity with the Palestinian people during a meeting with Abdullah Abu Shawesh, the Ambassador of the State of Palestine to India, at the Legislative Assembly in Thiruvananthapuram. In a powerful statement, Vijayan condemned the ongoing conflict in Gaza as a “genocide” and called for its immediate cessation, emphasizing Kerala’s longstanding commitment to supporting Palestine’s right to self-determination. The meeting underscored Kerala’s role as a vocal advocate for justice in the Middle East amid escalating global tensions.

During the discussion, Ambassador Shawesh detailed the challenges faced by Palestinians, including what he described as an “Israeli invasion” and the severe humanitarian crisis in Gaza. Vijayan expressed solidarity, asserting that Kerala has consistently stood with Palestine against what he alleged are violations of international conventions by Israel, supported by the United States. He criticized the denial of democratic rights to Palestinians and urged the United Nations and the international community to intervene swiftly to restore peace and facilitate the establishment of a Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital, in accordance with UN resolutions.

The Chief Minister’s Office highlighted the significance of the meeting, noting Shawesh’s appreciation for Kerala’s support at this critical juncture. The ambassador emphasized the need for broader global backing to address the crisis, with Gaza’s Health Ministry reporting a death toll exceeding 66,000 in the Israel-Hamas conflict as of September 28, 2025. Vijayan’s public statement on X reinforced Kerala’s stance, declaring the state’s firm commitment to justice for Palestinians and its demand for an end to the violence in Gaza.

This reaffirmation of solidarity comes at a time when global attention remains focused on the Middle East, with escalating violence drawing widespread calls for peace. Vijayan’s call for action underscores the role of subnational governments in amplifying global issues, urging collective efforts to address the humanitarian crisis and work toward a just resolution that upholds Palestinian rights and aspirations for statehood.
