Pakistan Bus Plunges Into Ravine Near Balochistan-KP Border, 40 Dead, Eight Injured
Deadly bus accident in Pakistan claims 40 lives.
At least 40 people were killed and eight others injured on Friday after a passenger bus plunged into a ravine in Pakistan’s Balochistan province near the border with Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The tragic accident occurred in the Danasar area along the Sherani–Zhob highway, when the bus reportedly lost control while travelling from Quetta to Peshawar, according to local media reports.
Rescue officials said the bus was carrying 48 passengers at the time of the accident. Medical Emergency Response Centre (MERC) sources confirmed that 40 bodies were recovered from the crash site, while the remaining eight injured passengers were transported to the Trauma Centre in Zhob for emergency treatment. Officials added that the injured were initially provided first aid at the scene before being shifted to a district hospital for further care.
Rescue 1122 spokesperson Bilal Ahmad Faizi stated that emergency teams, along with district administration personnel from Sherani and other agencies, immediately rushed to the site after receiving information about the accident. Rescue operations were carried out in coordination with Emergency Services Balochistan, as teams worked to recover victims from the difficult terrain and provide medical assistance to survivors.

Authorities have launched an investigation into the cause of the crash. Preliminary reports suggest that the vehicle may have lost control before falling into the ravine, although officials have not yet confirmed the exact reason. The incident has once again highlighted concerns over road safety and vehicle maintenance on long-distance routes in the region, where difficult terrain and infrastructure challenges often contribute to fatal accidents.
Deadly road accidents are relatively common in Pakistan, particularly in hilly and remote areas. In recent months, several similar incidents have resulted in multiple fatalities, including bus and van crashes linked to mechanical failures and difficult road conditions. Officials have reiterated the need for stricter safety checks and improved emergency response mechanisms to reduce the frequency of such tragedies.
