UAE Nuclear Plant Status Confirmed Safe: IAEA Reacts to Recent Fire and Safety Checks

Drone strike at UAE’s Barakah Nuclear Plant triggers fire; no radiation risk, IAEA monitoring closely.

A drone strike on an electrical generator outside the inner perimeter of the Barakah Nuclear Power Plant in the Al Dhafra Region triggered a fire on Sunday, authorities confirmed. Officials reported that there were no injuries, and the plant’s essential systems continue to operate normally.

The Abu Dhabi Media Office stated that radiological safety levels remained unaffected despite the incident. The Federal Authority for Nuclear Regulation affirmed that all critical systems are functioning as intended, ensuring the plant’s ongoing safety and operational stability.

The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), the UN’s nuclear watchdog, said it had been informed of the incident by UAE authorities and confirmed that there is no radiation risk. The agency added that it is closely monitoring the situation and is prepared to provide technical assistance if needed.

Preliminary reports indicate that the drone targeted an external electrical generator, causing localized fire damage without affecting the plant’s core operations. Emergency response teams promptly controlled the fire, and there has been no reported impact on nuclear fuel or reactor safety.

The incident comes amid heightened regional tensions, with global attention on nuclear security and energy infrastructure in the Gulf. International authorities continue to monitor developments to ensure compliance with safety and security standards.

Separately, US President Donald Trump issued a warning to Iran, emphasizing that the country could face severe consequences if a peace deal is not reached soon. He stated that Iran has a vested interest in reaching an agreement, highlighting the broader geopolitical context surrounding the Middle East.
