Indian Flagged Ships Reportedly Attacked In Strait Of Hormuz, No Injuries Confirmed
Two Indian flagged tankers reportedly attacked in Strait of Hormuz.
Two Indian-flagged commercial vessels came under fire from Iranian gunboats in the Strait of Hormuz on Saturday, in a fresh escalation of tensions in one of the world’s most critical maritime corridors. According to sources, both ships were forced to turn back after the incident, though no injuries were reported and neither vessel suffered any visible damage.
The incident reportedly occurred northeast of Oman, where Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps gunboats approached the vessels and opened fire without causing a confirmed impact. One of the ships involved was identified as a Very Large Crude Carrier (VLCC), a massive class of tanker used for long-distance transport of crude oil across international shipping routes.
Sources said the VLCC was carrying approximately 2 million barrels of Iraqi crude oil at the time of the incident, highlighting the commercial significance of the disrupted passage. The second Indian-flagged vessel was also navigating the strategic waterway when it was forced to alter course following the confrontation.

In response to the incident, Indian diplomatic authorities have reportedly summoned the Iranian ambassador to seek clarification, underscoring New Delhi’s concern over the safety of its flagged vessels and the security of maritime trade routes in the region.
The developments come amid rapidly shifting conditions in the Strait of Hormuz. Iran had recently indicated that the waterway was open for commercial shipping, but later announced renewed restrictions, citing ongoing tensions with the United States over naval operations and port access.
Iran’s latest move follows its assertion that it has reinstated strict control over the strait in response to what it described as a US naval blockade of Iranian ports. The situation has led to confusion among commercial shipping operators, with multiple vessels reportedly abandoning or delaying transit attempts through the strategically vital chokepoint, which carries a significant share of global oil shipments.
